Marta Matute’s debut film “Yo no moriré de amor” (“I Won’t Die for Love”) is getting support from Elastica Films and Solita Films. The drama focuses on 20-year-old Claudia and her siblings as they deal with their mother’s Alzheimer’s disease. Despite the family challenges, Claudia refuses to give up her youth.
Matute based the screenplay on her own experiences caring for her mother and won an award for it. She has also made a short film and plans to do another one before this feature. Executive producer Cecilia Rivas of Solita Films hopes to get more European funding for the movie.
Solita Films has been producing unique films for over a decade and has other projects in the works, including suspense and horror films. The Alenda brothers, the film’s lead producers, say the story needs to be told to help society become more understanding of caregiving and mortality.
