Shout Studios is giving the 1984 action favourite Red Dawn a 21st-century facelift with a newly released 4K Steelbook edition. The film has been meticulously scanned from its original negative in HDR 10 and is Dolby Vision compatible. Priced at $35, the disc is rich with bonus content, including interviews with cast and crew and various behind-the-scenes features.
Directed by John Milius and originally controversial for its Cold War-era politics, Red Dawn has remained a cultural touchstone. The film was a commercial hit despite receiving mixed reviews and holds the distinction of being the first to receive a PG-13 rating.
It showcased a young ensemble cast of future stars like Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson, and was remade in 2012 to less favourable reception. Now, fans old and new can experience this cult classic in eye-popping 4K. The Steelbook edition is currently available for order on Shout’s website.
