‘No One Will Save You’ Director on How to Make a Movie With Limited Dialogue and Scary Aliens — Horror Film School

Brian Duffield, the writer and director of the new Hulu horror movie No One Will Save You, is pushing boundaries in the genre by limiting dialogue and revealing his aliens early in the movie. Starring Kaitlyn Dever as Brynn Adams, a reclusive loner, the movie revolves around an alien invasion in a small town.

Duffield explained that the limited dialogue wasn’t a gimmick but rather a byproduct of the storyline and the reclusive nature of Brynn’s character. He added that he wanted to focus on visual storytelling and trusted that audiences would keep up with the emotional and complex backstory that explains why Brynn is an outcast in her community.

In a departure from movies like Jaws that keep the antagonist hidden, Duffield intentionally showcases his aliens from the get-go, opting for the traditional grey alien look to create nostalgia.

While Duffield isn’t sure if he’ll make another movie in this style, he praised the collaborative effort of his team, from the creature designers to sound engineers, in bringing his vision to life.
