Curzon Appoints Edward Fletcher as New CEO

Curzon, a renowned specialty film distributor and exhibitor, has announced the appointment of Edward Fletcher as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective next week. Fletcher will succeed Philip Knatchbull, who is stepping down from the role.

Fletcher brings a wealth of experience in the film industry, having co-founded Soda Pictures in 2002. Soda Pictures, under Fletcher’s leadership, successfully distributed over 300 titles before being acquired by Thunderbird Entertainment in 2014 and subsequently rebranded as Thunderbird Releasing. Fletcher’s expertise extends beyond distribution, as he also established a film and TV division for games and publishing company Rebellion and currently serves as vice chair at Film Cymru Wales, a Welsh government agency supporting the film industry in Wales.

Curzon, acquired by Cohen Media Group in 2019, is a leading force in the arthouse and specialty film sector. With a strong presence in London, Curzon operates 55 screens across 16 theaters, while its distribution arm has released over 400 critically acclaimed films in the U.K. and Ireland, including recent hits like Triangle of Sadness and Parasite.

Fletcher expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating Curzon has an unrivaled film heritage, much-loved cinemas, and a culturally leading distribution arm. With the strength and collaborative spirit of the owners of Cohen Media Group, I look forward to working with the team at Curzon and Charles S. Cohen to continue to bring the best of cinema to audiences at Curzon.

Echoing Fletcher’s sentiment, Curzon chairman and owner Charles S. Cohen commented, Ed Fletcher’s knowledge of the U.K. film market will be invaluable to Curzon as it continues to expand its business and present the world’s finest films to discerning filmgoers. Ed’s production experience will allow Curzon to undertake a more active film production role going forward. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Curzon family.

Fletcher’s appointment marks a significant step forward for Curzon as it seeks to further solidify its position as a premier destination for arthouse and specialty cinema. With Fletcher’s leadership and expertise, Curzon is poised to continue its legacy of bringing exceptional cinematic experiences to audiences across the U.K. Source
