Renowned Animato Chris Sanders Reunites with DreamWorks Animation for The Wild Robot

Renowned for directing beloved animated films like How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch, Chris Sanders is making a much-anticipated return to DreamWorks Animation to direct an exciting new feature, The Wild Robot, based on Peter Brown’s eponymous novel.

As per an exclusive from The Wrap, while much of the project is kept secret, the animated narrative will revolve around a robot named Rozzum 7134, or Roz. Fatefully landing on an uninhabited island, Roz makes unlikely friends with Brightbill the gosling and a band of eccentric animals. Together, they navigate a suspenseful adventure, fighting to protect Roz from robots determined to return her to her creators.

Though a release date for The Wild Robot remains undisclosed, DreamWorks Animation fans can anticipate a heartwarming and exhilarating story featuring a cast of endearing new characters.

This project marks Sanders’ first venture with DreamWorks Animation since the 2013 release of The Croods. Following a short break from animation, during which he directed the live-action film The Call of the Wild to mixed critical response and modest box office earnings, Sanders’ return to animation is eagerly awaited by fans hoping for a revival of his earlier acclaimed style. Sanders isn’t just directing; he’s also crafting the screenplay for The Wild Robot, collaborating with a talented team including Raymond Zibach (Production Designer), Mary Blee (Editor), and Heidi Jo Gilbert (Head of Story).

Even though DreamWorks experienced a box office hiccup earlier this year with the less-than-stellar performance of Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, the studio is bustling with promising projects in the pipeline. This fall, audiences can look forward to the arrival of Trolls Band Together, and next year will witness the return of the cherished Kung Fu Panda series with its fourth instalment. Furthermore, DreamWorks will release Orion and the Dark, penned by Charlie Kaufman, exclusively on Netflix, alongside a slew of other enthralling projects currently in development.

For fans eagerly waiting for The Wild Robot’s release, the official trailer for the upcoming DreamWorks film, Trolls Band Together, offers a sneak peek into the studio’s imminent offering. With an array of projects underway, it’s an exciting season for aficionados of DreamWorks Animation. Source
